Volunteers

Merewether United Football Club is run by a team of volunteers. We ask players and parents of players to help out, whether it be at game day or through a role on the Committee. Contact us to find out more.

Duty Officer

Roles and responsibilities at Junior games

MOST IMPORTANTLY: the duty officer must wear the team’s hi-vis vest and be close to the field for the duration of the game.

Behaviour

  • Remind spectators to keep away from the sidelines of the game. For U6 and U7 games spectators are to stand/sit around perimeter of the main field, not midfield.
  • Address any inappropriate behaviour from spectators – especially persistent abusive or negative language.
  • A polite and calm manner will usually avoid unpleasant confrontations. Make a clear statement that a behaviour is not acceptable at this ground and needs to stop.
  • If the situation escalates and you are not comfortable, seek support from any committee member or other sensible looking adult.

Safety
Help respond to any injuries. In particular:

  • ice packs and first aid kit in the canteen
  • call an ambulance if needed. Unlock gate to the field – key on master set in ref’s shed
  • complete incident report – form in canteen
  • AED defib in the canteen

Assistance
Be available to answer any questions. If you are unsure, ask the staff in the canteen or speak to a committee member (contact details in the canteen).

Roles and responsibilities at inter-district games

MOST IMPORTANTLY: the duty officer must wear the team’s hi-vis vest and be close to the field for the duration of the game. It can be a good idea to walk around the outside of the field once or twice during play.

Match related

  • Check that the referees have turned up. In the event no official referee is present refer to Committee Member / MUFC casual on duty
  • Make sure team sheets are available for both teams’ managers/coaches to fill in. After the game, check that the team sheet has correct score recorded and has been signed by official from both teams and returned to the front of the canteen.
  • Remind teams to not warm-up on the playing surface. Also, keep people away from the goalmouths at half time and between games
  • Try to have games start on time. Ensure only substitute players and team officials – wearing team official tags – are in the interchange area.

Behaviour

  • Remind spectators to keep 3m from the sidelines.
  • Address any inappropriate behaviour from anyone off the field – especially persistent abusive or negative language.
